Bringing a knife to a gun fight

What won me over to Obama's side? Sadly, it may have something to do with his liberal use of movie quotes to explain politics. As I mentioned previously, when he visited the University of Denver campus and it turned out his audience was too big for the venue, he remarked, "We're gonna need a bigger boat," borrowing a line from Roy Scheider in Jaws.

Yesterday, Obama explained his willingness to be tough on John McCain by paraphrasing Sean Connery in The Untouchables: "If they bring a knife to the fight, we bring a gun."

That line should have particular relevance to Obama, given it described life in Chicago. The full quote, of course is:
You wanna know how you do it? Here's how, they pull a knife, you pull a gun. He sends one of yours to the hospital, you send one of his to the morgue. That's the Chicago way.
I understand Obama's a big fan of The Godfather. This campaign's gonna be fun.

It´ll be interesting to see if McCain continues Clinton´s tactic of trying to label a Chicago pol, raised in Suharto´s Indonesia, with an oil industry-employed stepfather, some kind of naif. Somewhere Obama´s talking about keeping friends close but enemies closer.

Lidzville, you'll be thrilled to know that Gingrich agrees with you.

Yeah, maybe that is the Chicago way, but how about the US way, eh?
