For my film and politics class today, I borrowed extensively from
Scott Eric Kaufman's discussion of the two recent Batman films. I wasn't actually teaching either of those films, but Kaufman's discussions of
mise-en-scène in them are great and very useful, and I figured it made more sense to borrow (while properly citing him!) than to reinvent the wheel. If you get a chance, read his discussions of
the portrayal of Batman as a monster in a horror film and
the use of the tracking shot in "Dark Knight" as evidence of Batman's speed.
