Accountability -- what a concept!

Louis Caldera, the head of the White House Military Office who conceived of the Air Force One flyover of Manhattan, has resigned. Honestly, when was the last time you heard of someone stepping down from a prominent post because they screwed up on the job? Not because of some personal Spitzer-like scandal, but because they did their job poorly? This strikes me as pretty rare.

Michael Brown at FEMA?

Granted, this would be the exception that proves the rule that there was no limit to W's tolerance of incompetence within his administration. It was only the overwhelming public outcry against "Brownie" that overcame W's loyalty to this hack crony.

Okay, sort of, to the extent that Brownie was fired for incompetence. But didn't he immediately go on a nationwide media tour to explain why he did nothing wrong and Chertoff/Bush were to blame? Hey, he may have even been right, but it wasn't exactly penitence.
